Beyond football development, Shahzadi Football Academy was also established to honor African women who have made significant contributions to national growth, often without due recognition.

One such individual is the late Sarah Moses Nee Ekpokhai, a Southern Nigerian woman who played a pivotal role in shaping the future of Nigerian football by raising her son, Ahmed Musa OON, a dedicated footballer who has served Nigeria with distinction.

Sarah Moses was originally from Afuze, Edo State (formerly Bendel State) and married a man from Borno State at a time when inter-regional marriages were rare. She was a firm believer in national unity and peace, often stating that marriage could be a means to heal past divisions, particularly following the Biafra War. Known for her charitable nature, she was committed to improving the lives of the less privileged, especially in rural communities.

The Life and Legacy of Sarah Moses Nee Ekpokhai

After losing her husband when her last child, Ahmed Musa, was just seven years old, Sarah Moses worked tirelessly to support her family through petty trading. Despite her initial desire for Ahmed to become an engineer, she ultimately supported his decision to pursue a football career. Through hard work and perseverance, he rose to become one of Nigeria’s most celebrated footballers. Sarah Moses instilled strong moral values in her children, emphasizing education, responsibility, and national pride.

She firmly believed that a person’s true legacy is not their wealth but the values and accomplishments of their children. Her dedication to her family and community remains an inspiration.
